Brighten Fringe festival is the largest art event in Great Britain. The main task of the administration of this festival is scouting for new talents not only in England, but all over the world! Festival is unique to some extent as it has several interesting features, peculiar just for this event.

About Festival

At first Brighton Fringe festival was opened in 1967. In 2006 it was registered as a brand name and became limited organization, which was financially independent.

The managing director of the festival is Julian Caddy. Due to his hard work the festival becomes more and more successful from year to year. Thus in 2015 the ticket sale increased for 23%.

Festival is the sample of creative freedom. All kinds of arts and talents are accepted here. Thus performances, concerts and exhibitions can be shown during the festival. There’s no special venue, where the festival is held. Shows can be performed in parks, on the beach, in the gardens as well as at the most popular theater halls of the town.

Everyone, who has a talent, can make a live show for Fringe Festival. It is an opportunity for talented people to promote themselves at the festival and thus start the career. Potential investors are also invited to the festival, so it is possible to find sponsor here too.

In 2015 Brighton Fringe Festival was especially successful.

Brighton Fringe Festival 2015

In 2015 the festival was held from the 1st till the 31st of May. During this period the performances took place every Saturday. In May, 2015 about 700 individual performances were shown to the guests and more than 170 of them were free. More than 10,000 people of all ages visited the festival this year. The site of the festival was visited by more than 7,000 people in May 2015 too, so as you see, it was online success as well.

This year it was the first time, when the participants could compete and win in some nominations. Thus there was a nomination for the best theatre script, which was given to such companies as “Crushed” and “Bloominauschwitz”. The best among dance bands became “The Hiccup Project for May-we-go-round?” and the best live music performer was Camille O’Sullivan.

The special award is Fringe Guru Audience Choice Award. Every participant of the festival had to promote himself in any way as he or she had chosen. No importance, if it was large art event or just a small individual show – in any case every participant had a chance to win. This year “Tap That!” had won this nomination. We hope, that all these winners will develop their skills and this festival will be the first step of their career success.

Visitors liked to choose the winners of nominations, but even the more pleasant for them was the visit to the theatre. Every weekend new plays were performed by unknown talents.

Thus it was possible to visit “The Handless Maiden told with Puppets” – the moving story that was told by puppets. The other day guests of the festival listened to “Beauty of Mantra with Mahasukha”. Mahasukha, the performer, told about the use of meditation and read Buddhist mantra for peace, love and beauty of every attendant of the evening. The price for these performances was not high – about £10 for adults and £8 for children.

But if some of visitors wanted to save money, they could attend one of events that were free of charge. Thus for lovers of comedies David Ephgrave played “…and Ephgrave” at North Street.

The fans of visual arts could watch (and even touch) ceramic wares of Alice Walton at the Rosehill Workshops.

The theater lovers could watch “Amatar Showcase” played by Falmouth Academy of Music & Theatre Arts at New Road.

To sum up, different kinds of performances and talented people of Brighton and other cities could promote themselves. Visitors of the festival could watch interesting and original art events for free or for a couple of pounds.

In 2015 the festival became extremely successful, but Julian Caddy, its director, is not going to stop and take some rest. He tells that he is going to develop his “child” and improve the festival from year to year. Fringe 2015 was just over and the director and his colleagues plan Brighton Fringe Festival 2016!

Brighton Fringe Festival 2016

Festival 2016 is already planned by its administration. Julian Caddy tries to find new talents. To achieve his aim, he visits different art festivals in Great Britain, USA, France and many other countries. If he notices interesting performers, he immediately invites them to go to Brighton in 2016.

The next year festival will start on May, 6 and will be over on June, 5. Nobody knows exactly, who will take part in this festival, and that is the main idea of the event.

For sure, this year winners of different nominations can take part in the program of festival next year for free. Some special guests will be invited by the managing director of the festival. All the other talented people, who want to attract public attention to their work, can register at the site of the festival and try to become the participant.

The registration will be opened on the 19th of October this year and will last till the 29 January 2016 next year.

If you want to register, you have to describe the event you want to show (or several of them), to find the venue for it (it can be held anywhere, starting from the glade in the park and finishing with a huge concert hall). After that you should have enough free time to show your event as the schedule will be planned by the administration of the festival and your event may take place any time from May till June (the period, when festival is held).

After that you have to pay the fee to get the right to show your event. Fees are different. It depends on the amount of events you want to perform, on your right to get a discount and some other reasons. In average the participation in the festival costs £115.

If you are chosen as participant, about 15,000 of people will hear about your show!

Brighton Fringe Festival is a serious cultural event of the year. It has a long history and from year to year it becomes more and more popular. New talents have an opportunity to start their career at this festival. It is interesting and really important for both, participants and visitors!
